Seal The Deal For Your Child’s Smile With Dental Sealants

Are you aware of a simple, pain-free, totally non-invasive preventative dental procedure that could reduce a child’s chance of cavities by at least 50% and up to 80% when applied to the back molars chewing surface?

It might sound magical, but it's real.  They're called dental sealants and dentists are trying to get the word out. At a cost of just $40 or so per tooth, often covered by insurance, you could give yourself or your children substantial added protection against cavities, since cavities are the most common chronic health problem for children in the US according to the CDC.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Simply put, dental sealants are an extra layer of protection put on top of a person's molars and pre-molars. These teeth tend to naturally have very deep grooves and crevices which are very difficult to clean, even with proper brushing and flossing. It's easy for food particles to get stuck in those crevices and begin to rot, starting the process of forming cavities.

So, dental sealants are a layer of hard dental material - similar to a crown - put onto the chewing surfaces of those teeth to fill in the deepest crevices.

This does two things at once.

First, the extra layer of material provides a strong 'shield' protecting these teeth from damage. Also, by filling in those crevices, dental sealants make those teeth easier to keep clean.

If properly applied by a trained dentist, dental sealants can last for years. If the seal ever becomes chipped or broken due to an accident, it can be easily repaired or replaced.

How Are Dental Sealants Applied?

The process is extremely simple. It's pain-free, and there's no need for anesthetics. Each tooth only takes a few minutes to complete.

First, the dentist performs a regular cleaning, making sure the teeth are completely free of any particles or debris. Then a special fast-setting dental material is 'painted' onto the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Finally, a bright ultraviolet light is briefly shone onto the tooth, to help the material set more quickly.

Dental Sealants Protect Your Teeth

Even without insurance, the cost of dental sealants is far less expensive than the costs associated with repairing cavities or other damage. This is a procedure that is right for almost anyone, young or old, and can protect your teeth for years to come.
