Radiant Smiles are not Just for Aesthetics, they Also Impact Oral Health
Our smiles are not just for looks. Teeth play an important role in our health and well-being, contributing to our digestion and speech. The formation of our teeth begins before birth and continues through childhood and adolescence. Let’s examine the process, recognize and appreciate the importance of our oral health and proper dental care.
Formation of Teeth
Our teeth develop in stages, with the first stage developing in utero.
· Initiation Stage which occurs between 6-7 weeks of gestation.
· Bud Stage 8 weeks, small buds emerge in the jaw
· Cap Stage occurs at 9-10 weeks and cells begin differentiating into enamel-producing and dentin-forming cells
· Bell Stage is 11-14 weeks where the tooth structure begins to take shape and hard tissue begins forming
· Eruption Stage occurs after birth from 6 mos to 3 years for Primary Teeth; 6-21 years for our Permanent Teeth.
